43-year-old man arrested following armed robbery https://t.co/EJIgowVQvS #Shediac pic.twitter.com/U6g8qPNwbq

A 43-year-old man from Shediac has been arrested following an armed robbery last week. On April 17th, shortly after 3 a.m., members of the Shediac RCMP responded to a report of a robbery at a business on Main Street in the community. The suspect told the clerk he had a gun and proceeded to take a number of lottery scratch tickets before leaving on foot. On Tuesday, April 23rd, police arrested a 43-year-old man for robbery. Steve Hudon of Shediac was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court today. The Mounties say that the investigation is ongoing.
There’s a new report in the Telegraph Journal saying that about 70,000 NBers have applied for the government’s $300 “NB Workers Benefit” payments, and about 51,000 have received them. That’s way less than the PC Government’s statement that up to 250,000 households could be eligible. Also, the pace of applications has slowed down. In mid March, the province said it had received nearly 34,000 applications, and had sent cheques to more than 15,000 NBers. Nearly a month and a half later…average weekly applications have slowed to 5,968. The TJ reports that rate holds, the government will only get about 150,000 applications by the time it wraps on June 30th.
FYI: Applications for the Emergency Workers Benefit are open until June 30th: https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/corporate/promo/new-brunswick-workers-benefit.html?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw8diwBhAbEiwA7i_sJVGstKMej2N7tKOEgFOvjggZaSpemQYsYiXQky3zqo-s6Dfe4DeTKBoCAasQAvD_BwE

The Parent School Support Committee at Bernice Macnaughton High School tells the Times & Transcript that they’re concerned about the smells coming from the Oganigram marijuana factory that’s not far from the school. The group says they’re also frustrated that nothing seems to be able to be done about it. The committee appeared at the April meeting of the Anglophone East District Education Council…they say the group has been trying to contact the right people in the province to address their concerns but they keep getting passed around to municipal, provincial, & federal contacts. Superintendent Randolph MacLean commented that the school district is working with the parent group to get through the red tape….MacLean says that he’s familiar with the odour coming from the plant, calling it a “concern and an irritant.” A spokesperson for Organigram told the Times & Transcript that “In response to community inquiries” they have retained an environmental specialist help them out with odour prevention.
They do say that they are in compliance with current rules and regulations set out by the different levels of government.
