NB GAS PRICE PREDICTIONS: A big rumour that the NBEUB was going to use the interuptor clause to raise prices 13 or 14 cents last night…that didn’t happen (phew!) But experts think that regular gas prices could increase five cents or more during tonight’s weekly adjustment. Not much change expected for diesel & furnace oil prices.
ICYMI NB GAS PRICE UPDATE: Regular gas prices increased 5.3¢ a litre last Friday. The new maximum for regular self serve is $1.85.2 a litre. Diesel stayed the same. Furnace oil is down two tenths of a cent. In Nova Scotia gas prices are up 3.1 cents. Diesel increased 2.6 cents. If you’re travelling gas prices are three or four cents cheaper a litre in the Amherst area than they are here in Moncton.
NB fuel prices (current maximums):
⛽Regular self serve – $1.85.2 a litre
⛽Diesel – $1.88.3
🛢️Furnace oil – $1.55.6
🔥Propane $1.23.4

Landlords in New Brunswick are warning about what could be significant rent hikes for tenants next year. A spokesperson says that missing protections against enormous property tax increases is the culprit. Critics are questioning about that warning though…saying that many tenants have seen massive rent increases while landlords have been protected against big increases in property taxes the last few years. A spokesperson for a tenants’ rights group tells the CBC that landlords are “using the taxation as an excuse [to raise rents].” They say that without rent controls…rents will continue to go up in the province. Meanwhile: Premier Blaine Higgs calls Tuesday’s federal budget disappointing, and he’s critical of continued deficit spending. The federal government says the 535-billion dollar budget seeks to restore economic fairness for millennials and gen-Z voters, and includes 8.5 billion dollars over five years to help build millions of homes. Owning a home, or renting are both riddled with affordability issues in our province…but Higgs sidestepped the question of why his government doesn’t have rent caps or viable solutions to help renters, and pointed to the Residential Tenancies Tribunal where tenants can make appeals. But he does say the federal budget has a few isolated areas that someone might say, ‘OK, well, that’s all right’ but he did not elaborate.
