Well we’ve been hearing about it for months and finally on Monday we’re getting the solar eclipse! Here in Greater Moncton we get 99.8% of the eclipse…but a wide swath of New Brunswick will get “maximum totality”…100% of the eclipse. A lot of people heading to the Miramichi for this…they’re in the 100% area. Here in Moncton there’s a festival: https://www.experiencemoncton.ca/article/eclipsol-moncton-solar-eclipse-festival.
The NB government has issued a warning to those who plan on viewing the total solar eclipse on Monday. Dr. Yves Leger, the province’s acting chief medical officer of health, says looking directly at the eclipse without eye protection could damage your vision and cause blindness. Leger says observers should use certified eclipse glasses that meet I-S-O standards, being careful to follow the directions that come with this special eyewear. Minister accused of threatening to dissolve DEC over gender policy https://t.co/5gzxeaF6uA
— Telegraph-Journal (@TJProvincial) April 3, 2024
There’s been another legal challenge to New Brunswick’s gender identity policy that makes it mandatory for students under 16 years old to seek parental consent if they want to change their names at school. The Anglophone East district education council alleges in a lawsuit that Education Minister Bill Hogan threatened to dissolve the council if it didn’t follow the policy. It’s asking a judge to stop Hogan from removing the council’s own policy on the matter posted online, terminating the council, and enforcing the provincial government’s consent rule. The Canadian Civil Liberties Association has also sued the province over Policy 713.
