→ Those affordability payments from the Province are back in the news. A story in the Times and Transcript says that over 33000 applications have been received, and more than 15000 payments have gone out. This is that $300 payment, the NB Workers Benefit which gets paid to qualifying households who apply. Robert Jones of the CBC adds to the story in his article, the headline is “Applications for NB Workers Benefit Running Behind Government Projections”. That article talks about how the government is just not getting the amount of applications they had predicted. articles here https://tj.news/new-brunswick/over-15000-nbers-have-received-300-affordability-payments and here https://www.cbc.ca/lite/story/1.7145663. → The provincial budget comes out today. The last number of budgets for New Brunswick had a surprise surplus. The reason for that depends on who you ask/ which political party you ask. Finance Minister Steeves mentioned future tax cuts to reporters and also increases to health care spending, but those might not be a budget thing and may only come later. More details when the budget comes out this afternoon after 1p. Province’s new fiscal begins April 1st, and a provincial election is scheduled for October 21st.
