— Angus Reid Institute (@angusreidorg) March 11, 2024
There’s a new poll out from the Angus Reid organization that shows what the voters think of Canada’s current premiers…New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs comes in last place with the worst approval rating of just 31%. That’s down a couple of approval points since the last poll…and way down from his personal high of 80% in June of 2020. Read more here: https://angusreid.org/premier-approval-march-2024/.
Thefts from vehicles and vehicle thefts on the rise in the province https://t.co/Xw1ZTxdoWN #NewBrunswick pic.twitter.com/4T1N2aZYBt
— RCMP New Brunswick (@RCMPNB) March 12, 2024
The NB RCMP say there’s been a recent spike of thefts OF vehicles and FROM vehicles in the province. Police are asking residents to reduce the risk by taking easy steps to help combat the issue. Corporal Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP says that these are “often crimes of opportunity.” and “Thieves are not always hatching elaborate plans to steal your property, it is more likely that they saw some valuables in plain sight, such as a wallet, purse, sunglasses, or a shopping bag, and decided to steal it.”
“One easy step everyone can take is to make their vehicle more boring to thieves by locking it up and removing tempting items from view. If a thief sees a locked car with nothing valuable inside, they’re less likely to target it, and spend the time trying to get inside.”
Some more tips:
– Never leave anything valuable like keys, wallets, purses, or shopping bags in your vehicle.
– Hide anything that could alert thieves that you have valuables in your vehicle, such as computer or cell phone charging cables.
– Remove all cash from plain view. Loose change can be an incentive for a thief to break into your vehicle.
– If you must leave bags or valuables in the car, store them in the trunk. Never leave them in plain sight.
– Never leave your vehicle running. It takes seconds for a thief to hop into your car and drive off.
– Park in a well-lit, high visibility area, or in a secure garage when possible.
– Close and lock all vehicle windows and doors.
– Report any suspicious people or activity around vehicles or residences to local police.
– Anyone who has been a victim of a crime should report it to police. The Online Crime Reporting (OCR) website is another way people can report some types of non-emergency crimes to the RCMP, 24/7, including theft from vehicle, without having to call the police non-emergency line or visit a detachment. Always call police or 9-1-1 immediately if the incident is still in progress, or if it is an emergency.
New Brunswick medical professionals say that the province’s health care system has reached a critical point and they say it needs nearly $600 million extra in the next budget to stabilize it and help transform it. The New Brunswick Medical Society and the New Brunswick Nurses Union identifies six priority areas and includes recommendations.

The Moncton Wildcats are back home this Thursday, March 14th to host Cape Breton. FYI: Former Wildcats coach Ted Nolan is returning to Moncton for the team’s game against the Cape Breton Eagles on March 14. “I’m excited to return to Moncton and see the team’s new state-of-the-art facilities in the Avenir Centre.
