New Brunswick volunteers build flying telescope to see total eclipse above the clouds https://t.co/Srt2kJKORk
— CTV Atlantic (@CTVAtlantic) March 11, 2024
A retired physicist in Western New Brunswick has led a group of volunteers to build a sun-tracking telescope that will be hoisted up into the sky by a weather balloon on the afternoon of the total solar eclipse next month. David Hunter of Florenceville-Bristol says that If all goes well on the afternoon of April 8th, cameras inside a box dangling beneath the balloon will livestream images to a YouTube channel. The path of totality for the eclipse April 8th includes Fredericton, Woodstock and Miramichi, while Moncton & Saint John will experience about 98% coverage of the sun.
