The provincial cost of assessment fee is levied on every property tax bill. It’s not huge at $19.40 per $100,000 of assessed value but it is allowed to rise with property values and has doubled for many homeowners since 2020/2021 https://t.co/AeJbWBWiUE

ICYMI: A little more controversy over this year’s tax assessment bills…Service NB mailed the bills out to property owners in the province last Friday…a lot of folks are flabbergasted about their huge assessment increases…we’ve been hearing about that for a while…but there’s a CBC article out about something on your assessment bill that you might not have noticed…there’s a “cost of assessment” fee tacked on at the bottom. The fee is set in legislation at $19.40 for every $100,000 that a property is assessed to be worth…so that fee has been rising as your assessment has increased. Critics say that if there’s going to be a fee…it should be a flat rate…not something tied to the assessed value of the house which can change from year to year. The CBC story points out that “this year the cost of assessment fee is expected to raise a record $15.8 million from property owners. That is $1.5 million more than last year with most of the increase coming from owners of residential properties”. The Town of Riverview has been designated as the province’s 15th age-friendly community. The recognition program, administered by the Department of Social Development, encourages communities to take sustainable action to become welcoming places for all ages and to encourage healthy aging and wellness. Riverview Mayor Andrew J. LeBlanc said that “Seniors have helped strengthen our community since amalgamation 50 years ago, and we are pleased to continue to make great strides toward the well-being of our older residents.” More: https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/news/news_release.2024.03.0106.html.

The Moncton Wildcats hit the road for games this weekend in Charlottetown on Saturday and Halifax on Sunday. Moncton is back home on March 14th to host Cape Breton.
FYI: Former Wildcats coach Ted Nolan is returning to Moncton for the team’s game against the Cape Breton Eagles on March 14. “I’m excited to return to Moncton and see the team’s new state-of-the-art facilities in the Avenir Centre. I also want to share important information and raise awareness during Multiple Myeloma Month.” A year ago, Nolan was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. He received treatment and is recovering. “In hockey, I faced many battles on the ice,” said Nolan. “This is one battle I’m hoping others can avoid.
