ICYMI: On Friday, the City of Dieppe announced the passing of city firefighter Captain Rheal Leger, of the Dieppe Fire Department. Captain Leger passed away on Thursday, January 5th, from what the city release referred to as “work related illness” at the age of 57 years old. Captain Leger began his career as a volunteer firefighter in 1984, earned a permanent position as a firefighter and emergency medical technician in 1987, and was promoted to Captain in 2014. In 2000, Leger was recognized as Canadian firefighter of the year and received a medal of bravery for saving a mother and her two children during a flood while off duty. Fire Chief Marc Cormier said that Cormier’s passing is a great loss to the department…and the community.
Mayor Yvon Lapierre announced that “The flags at City Hall and two fire stations will be flown at half-mast in honour of Captain Leger.”
Officials with the provincial government say that more than 100,000 people from around the world attended the 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Moncton, generating an estimated $20 million in economic activity! More: https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/news/news_release.2023.01.0011.html
