The Vautour family, from Richibucto, N.B., is speaking out about the current health-care system after their father and husband waited eight hours to be unloaded at Stella Maris De Kent Hospital on Sunday. https://t.co/VmfTDQd03N

A 75 year old St. Louis de Kent man battling dementia was apparently left waiting in an ambulance for more than six hours on Sunday waiting to see a doctor at the Stella Maris-de-Kent hospital. His family is asking questions about ambulance offload delays and emergency room backups. The issues aren’t new…but they do seem to be happening more often across New Brunswick. The Vitalité Health Authority says that the Stella Maris emergency room was busier than usual on the weekend and they also had quite a high bed occupancy. A spokesperson says that they are “actively working to improve the flow of admissions and discharges, as well as to reduce overflow and wait times in the emergency department, and to make it easier to manage admissions to a nursing unit.” The Department of Health also said in a statement to CTV News that it cannot comment on specific cases but that officials are working on initiatives to help reduce offload delays. New Brunswick’s latest update on COVID-19 says the number of hospitalizations due to the virus dropped in the first week of this year and deaths have remained stable. The Department of Health says 22 people were admitted to hospital between January 1st and the 7th, including one person in intensive care. It says there were also nine confirmed new deaths due to COVID-19, compared with 15 in the previous report that covered the last two weeks of 2022. The province has also confirmed its first two cases of the new Omicron subvariant XBB.1.5, which is spreading quickly in the United States and gaining ground in Canada…that’s the one that’s also known as “The Kraken”.
ICYMI: An independent research group says that New Brunswick has the worst score in what it calls the “covid hazard index”. Our province scores more than two points higher than the national average for last week’s data. The group tells the CBC that means that deaths in New Brunswick are roughly 10 to 11 per cent higher than they would be without COVID-19. A spokesperson says that they rate those results as “severe”, and they also say that according to their estimates, one out of every 47 NBers is currently infected. Public health reported 18 deaths from Covid over a two week period in it’s latest release last Wednesday. CHRISTMAS TREE DISPOSAL INFO:
City of Moncton: There are several Christmas tree drop-off locations around the city until the end of the month:
– Mapleton Park (Gorge Road)
– Crossman Community Centre
– Crowley Farm Road (ballfield)
– Moncton Coliseum parking lot
– Former Dud James Arena parking lot
You can also drop-off trees at ECO360 off of Berry Mills Road.
City of Dieppe: This year’s real Christmas tree pickup will be on Wednesday, January 11th. Details: www.dieppe.ca/garbage.
Town of Riverview: The Town will again offer its free Christmas tree pick-up alongside regular garbage collection. During the week of January 9, 2023, place your natural tree curbside on your regular pick-up day for collection. Please ensure that all decorations, tinsel and lights are removed from the tree. (Due to demand, your tree may be collected a few days after your regular waste pick-up day.)
Meanwhile, as we now officially enter the winter months, Town officials request that residents place garbage bags a few feet from the end of their driveways, not atop snow banks. If not possible, please reduce the size of your snow bank before placing bags to reduce the risk of injury for both residents and waste collectors. Please keep in mind the winter parking ban which prohibits parking on Town streets from midnight to 7 a.m. until March 31.
