The family of a Nova Scotia woman who died in hospital in Amherst after waiting hours for care on December 31st is calling for immediate action to address the health care crisis in that province. Independent M-L-A Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin says Allison Holthoff had to wait hours for care at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre’s emergency department despite showing signs of medical distress. The M-L-A has sent a letter to Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston asking for assistance in urgently implementing a plan to help ensure safe and timely care for people living in the area. Nova Scotia Health said in an email to C-T-V News that it’s conducting an investigation to determine what exactly happened to Holthoff and the results will be shared with her family when it’s complete.
New Brunswick’s education minister has apologized to the family of an 11-year-old student that he referred to as a political “prop” during legislature in December 2022.https://t.co/zVReisjjPr

The provincial education minister has apologized to an 11-year-old Moncton student that he referred to as a political “prop” in December. Bill Hogan met with the Robichaud family on zoom last week and apologized to Natasha, a student in Grade 7 at Maplehurst Middle School for the remarks that were made during a discussion about the changes to French immersion. Maplehurst has been the site of a pilot project trying out some of the changes and Natasha’s mom Christina told the media that those changes arent working and her daughter’s French education is suffering.

“We had a good snow base, the ground froze early in the year, so the trees were able to go dormant and start their sugar making process.”https://t.co/hM7B9aaBgM
— Global New Brunswick (@Global_NB) January 9, 2023
2022 was a record year for New Brunswick maple syrup producers! The province saw over 3% growth with more than 810,000 gallons being harvested! Producers say that it was a perfect year with the weather…the ground froze early and there was a good snow base. They also say that if the industry is going to grow, they need access to more land. The province allocates 14,400 hectares of land for maple syrup production, and producers say that they need access to at least 12,000 more hectares of crown forest. Producers say that they made that request to the provincial government two years ago but so far no response.
City of Moncton: There are several Christmas tree drop-off locations around the city until the end of the month:
– Mapleton Park (Gorge Road)
– Crossman Community Centre
– Crowley Farm Road (ballfield)
– Moncton Coliseum parking lot
– Former Dud James Arena parking lot
You can also drop-off trees at ECO360 off of Berry Mills Road.

City of Dieppe: This year’s real Christmas tree pickup will be on Wednesday, January 11th. Details: www.dieppe.ca/garbage.
—
Town of Riverview: The Town will again offer its free Christmas tree pick-up alongside regular garbage collection. During the week of January 9, 2023, place your natural tree curbside on your regular pick-up day for collection. Please ensure that all decorations, tinsel and lights are removed from the tree. (Due to demand, your tree may be collected a few days after your regular waste pick-up day.)
Meanwhile, as we now officially enter the winter months, Town officials request that residents place garbage bags a few feet from the end of their driveways, not atop snow banks. If not possible, please reduce the size of your snow bank before placing bags to reduce the risk of injury for both residents and waste collectors. Please keep in mind the winter parking ban which prohibits parking on Town streets from midnight to 7 a.m. until March 31.
