City of Moncton rules: “You need a permit to have an outdoor fire”. The permits cost $10 and are valid for five years. Residents can apply for their permit online by visiting https://www.moncton.ca/fire-permit. The new permit process has been introduced to ensure residents have appliances that are compliant to the By-law, and to ensure that the Moncton Fire Department can respond to calls for service more efficiently when they are related to outdoor fires. Permits are approved instantaneously upon submitting the online form. However, residents are required to upload a photo of their appliance which is subject to inspection at any time.
City of Dieppe rules: “A permit from the municipality is required to use an outdoor fire pit”. Details: https://www.dieppe.ca/en/vivre-ici/permis-pour-foyer-exterieur.aspx.
Riverview rules: “A fire pit shall not be used when a ban on open burning is in place”. And be sure to check out Riverview’s By-law 500-10 to ensure your fire pit meets all safety requirements: https://www.townofriverview.ca/sites/default/files/documents/archives/by-law_500-11_fire_protection-consolidated_0.pdf
Province wide: Category 2, 3 and 4 fires require a written permit. Applications are available at the department’s district offices (Locations here: https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/departments/erd/fish-and-wildlife/content/Regions.html). *Burning grass is considered a Category 4 fire. People who deem it necessary to burn grass must submit a written burn plan to the department, have an inspection beforehand, and then receive a written permit.
