Today I requested to testify before the federal Finance Committee to explain why the upcoming Liberal hike to the carbon tax is bad for New Brunswickers.

Premier Blaine Higgs wants to take his case against the federal carbon tax right to Ottawa. Higgs letter to the Feds about the carbon tax, which goes up 23% as of Monday, says he want’s to “make the case as to why the federal government must – at a minimum – cancel the planned increase…with April 1st quickly approaching, I look forward to your prompt reply” and said that the increase will have “a disastrous impact on New Brunswickers, and all Canadians.”
The City of Moncton is moving forward with $20 million in upgrades to the water treatment facilities aimed at guarding against Blue Green Algae blooms or cyanobacteria. City officials say that our water source is in good shape, these are preventative measures against future blue green algae problems. The reservoirs at Turtle Creek and Tower Road provide an estimated 50 million litres of water to Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe each day. The city has already confirmed funding of $20 million to help with the project.
New Brunswick is getting more than 430-million dollars through two bilateral agreements with Ottawa to improve health care access and services. The money includes 313 million to improve primary care, professional recruitment and to expand mental health and substance use services. Another 117 million will go to seniors care including palliative, rehabilitation and long-term care. Through the new funding agreements both governments are also supposed to work on improving how health information is collected, shared and used.
