The first leaders debate of the provincial election campaign was held last night at the Riverview Arts Centre and broadcast on CBC…and in addition to the leaders all getting their messages out about what they’ll spend or not spend to get our votes…there was also a bit of a bombshell moment when PC leader Blaine Higgs claimed that Premier Brian Gallant offered him the job of finance minister when the Liberals won the last election in 2014. Higgs even pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket and said it was a sworn affadavit claiming that very fact…Gallant said that “At no point did I want Blaine Higgs to be finance minister, at no point did I offer him finance minister.” NDP leader Jennifer McKenzie called the whole exchange “ridiculous”…

Shelley Steeves from Global has a story about Anglo East installing video cameras on their school buses to catch drivers who pass when the buses are stopped. She interviewed Aubrey Kirkpatrick from the district…he says right now they have one camera on one bus…they’re asking the department of education for the equipment, which costs about $6,000, to be installed on all new buses. Kirkpatrick says that their bus drivers report an average of 10 vehicles a day speeding past them while their stopped with lights flashing. That one camera on the one bus has already caught three drivers…and the video footage along with the bus drivers eye witness accounts are being sent to the RCMP.
