ICYMI….The City of Moncton announced late Friday afternoon that they have detected blue-green algae in the water at Irishtown Nature Park and all water activities there are off limits until further notice. Pet owners are asked to keep their dogs out of the water and not let them drink or swim in the water.

The provincial and federal governments have committed up to $8 million to the construction of a new YMCA facility in the North End of Moncton. The City of Moncton is providing $6 million and the YMCA of Greater Moncton will undertake a $3-million capital campaign. The $17 million facility will include an interior splash pad, a gymnasium and fitness centre, an indoor track and a multi-purpose space that will be used for community activities. The 35,000-square foot community and recreation centre will be on an extension of Twin Oaks Drive and is expected to open in 2020.

The R-C-M-P are investigating the death of a 22-year-old woman at a New Brunswick First Nation. Police say officers found the woman’s body outside a residence in Elsipogtog First Nation early Saturday morning. The death is being treated as suspicious, and police have a man in custody, but no charges have yet been laid.

Last night’s Fisher Cats game against Chatham was postponed because of the rain…that game will be made up on August 14th at Kiwanis Park. Chatham beat Moncton 2-1 on Saturday night. The Fisher Cats are back in action Wednesday night when Saint John visits Kiwanis Park.
