The city of Moncton is going to regulate the infamous parking boot. First reading of a new bylaw happened at council last night that would set the maximum booting ticket at $45…a lot less than the $160 it cost to remove last Summer. Among other things the new bylaw would require booting companies to have someone available to remove the boot within half an hour and would have to be more flexible with payment methods. The boot bylaw could be in place by the Summer.

The Emergency Measures Organization says flooding in the Saint John area is expected to be at it’s highest today…but it’ll be days before water in most of the Saint John River’s lower basin begins to lower. The water level in Fredericton has been over 8 metres for 11 days, but is expected to drop to 7.3 metres by Wednesday. More than one-thousand evacuees have officially registered with the Red Cross…and many others have been staying with family or friends. Meanwhile people who went through the floods in 1973 and 2008 say this was the worst year ever.

A reminder that the TCH Route 2 detour remains in place this morning…westbound traffic heading for Fredericton will be detoured at River Glade and eastbound traffic going to Moncton gets detoured at Oromocto. You basically have to go to Saint John first if you’re heading in either direction…it makes for about a two hour and fifty minute trip. So far More than 140 provincial roads, bridges and culverts have been affected by flooding, including 81 road closures. (More travel info at http://www.newcountry969.ca/summerlinks/)

A group presented a petition to Moncton council last night calling for aban on plastic bags in the city. The Times & Transcript reports that councilor Pierre Boudreau told the group that the presentation was “magic to my ears” and said that people in favour of a bag ban should see something happening after an upcoming meeting between Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview councils.

As part of Emergency Preparedness Week (May 6-12), there will be a test of the emergency alert system on Wednesday, May 9. As many New Brunswickers continue to deal with high waters, they should be aware in advance that this alert is only a test. pic.twitter.com/j7fWC1cVPJ

First time in Alex Ovechkin’s career that he has advanced beyond the 2nd round. Before Monday night’s victory, the @Capitals, @Nationals, @Redskins and @WashWizards had gone a combined 0-13 in games that would have clinched a conference final berth. https://t.co/1HWPqoqMzV
