The EMO is saying Floodwaters in the greater Saint John area are expected to peak on Tuesday, about 10 days after the flooding began, and take several more days to recede. The St. John River has already reached unprecedented levels. It swelled to 5.7 metres on Sunday — well above the 4.2 metre flood stage — and is forecast to continue to rise to 5.8 metres.

With the rising waters, emo says health and safety are becoming major concerns. A lot of sewer systems have been compromised, resulting in heavy contamination. The provincial E-M-O has issued warnings for people who have private well water supplies affected by flooding, saying they should not be used until they have been disinfected and tested.
The flooding has forced at least 975 people from their homes, as of Sunday afternoon, and closed more than 100 roadways — including the Trans-Canada Highway between Moncton and Fredericton, which may not re-open until next week (More travel info HERE). Premier Gallant said Saturday he has not ruled out declaring a state of emergency or calling in the army to assist overwhelmed flood victims.
