The Maritime Fishermen’s Union have asked for an emergency meeting with fisheries minister Dominic Leblanc over the new lobster fishing rules to protect right whales. The union says the new restrictions could create an economic crisis. A fisheries department spokesperson said the minister has offered to meet with officials and other stakeholders to discuss the new management measures.

Emergency Measures officials in New Brunswick are warning about potential flooding on the St. John River. The river is expected to reach flood stage in the next 24 hours for Fredericton and Grand Lake. Rising levels are due to melting snow, unseasonably warm temperatures this week and as much as 40 millimetres of rain expected in some areas of the province.
