The City of Moncton is giving Moncton based insurance company Medavie Blue Cross the boot as one of it’s employee benefits providers. Council voted 7-4 last night to drop the company, which is headquartered right across the street, because they feel the company is charging them too much for that service. Mayor Dawn Arnold is quoted in the Times & Transcript as saying that council may want to support local…but “we don’t have a real choice here”. The move is expected to save the city more than $500,000 a year!
The City of Moncton will spend just over $161,000 upgrading Mapleton Park…It’s nothing glamorous but it is work that will ensure a longer life for the park…it’s stuff like raising part of the trail, installing culverts and manholes to stop erosion along Halls Creek. Some new benches and signs are going in too. Work is supposed to start this Spring and last most of the Summer.
