The man who hopped on a teeny tiny iceberg a couple of weeks ago and floated down the Petiticodiac has now been charged with 9 offenses…including threatening to kill a woman…but was released on bail yesterday after a hearing at Moncton Provincial Court. 34 year old Mike Delahunt has been in custody since the incident on February 22nd….He has been charged with assaulting and threatening to kill a woman at a residence on Salisbury Road in Moncton earlier that day, committing mischief by willfully damaging her personal property and breach of probation.

RCMP investigating the hit and run that claimed a mans life last weekend in St Charles said on Thursday A GMC pickup truck seized during the investigation has been returned to the owner. The investigation into the hit-and-run continues and there have been no arrests or charges laid. 22 year old Brady Francis of Elsipogtog was the victim of a fatal hit and run Saturday night while he was waiting on the side of the road for a ride home.

The 2019 Memorial Cup Committee was in town yesterday taking a look at the new downtown centre and presumably being wined and dined by the Wildcats and City officials. Apparently they were also taken to the 4 ice centre, the Moncton Stadium, and the Casino. It’s between us and Halifax to see who hosts next year’s national major junior championship. They’re going to make the announcement April 5th.
There’s a new boss at Magnetic Hill Zoo…Jill Marvin has served as Director of Conservation and Animal Care at the Quebec City Aquarium for more than a decade…according to the Zoo’s Facebook page she’ll start overseeing things at the zoo in April. Longtime Magnetic Hill Zoo director Bruce Dougan announced his retirement last year after almost 30 years running the zoo.

Moncton runner Geneviève Lalonde finished 11th in the women’s 3,000m final at indoor track worlds in Birmingham England yesterday afternoon. Gen says that race was “a learning experience”…she’s heading to Australia today where she’s competing for Canada in the Commonwealth Games in April!

The Moncton AAA Midget Flyers beat the Fredericton Caps 7-1 last night in their first round playoff series. Moncton is up 4 points to zero in that first to 8 points series. The Flyers are back at home Saturday night at the 4 Ice Centre for game three.

The Moncton Wildcats have seven games left in the regular season…they’re back in action Saturday when they host Bathurst. It’s AHL night at the game so the Cats are actually going to be wearing throwback Moncton Hawks jerseys. The Hawks played out of the Coliseum from 1987-1994…The season after the Hawks left town the Moncton Wildcats hit the ice as the Moncton Alpines in 1995.
