A lot of people talking on the weekend about the rooming house evictions that happened on Friday, which happened to be one of the coldest days of the year so far. Here are the details…About a week ago the Moncton Fire Department got a tip that the houses were in bad shape. They did an inspection at the properties, all on Gordon Street, on Thursday night…it was decided that the properties were unsafe and Friday afternoon with the help of the RCMP they evicted the residents and boarded up the houses. Officials admitted that the 13 people they put on the street were given “very short notice” but told the Times & Transcript that they felt it was necessary to clear the buildings because conditions were so unsafe. One resident said that officials kicked in doors and told them to get out. A lot of the residents have had to turn to homeless shelters in the city just to escape the bitter cold on the weekend. Times & Transcipt writer Tom Bateman wrote that the three buildings were bought in November by a company called Ashford Investments for a total of $1.4 million and the residents were given eviction notices then.
Food Depot Alimentaire needs your help with it’s Christmas Food Box program…As of last night they only have donations to fill 900 boxes and they need 1800. Boxes are packed and delivered tomorrow and Wednesday.
A couple of big lotto wins on the weekend here in Greater Moncton…A ticket sold in Moncton for Friday night’s Lotto Max draw worth $100,000…and then Saturday night someone bought a ticket in Riverview worth $25,649.

This young man finished his chemo treatment and joined the team for pre game speeches and took to the ice. His team lost (cats) in a shootout on Sportsnet. For him however it was the best day of his life. Some people truly understand what strong means. 🙏 https://t.co/WLG8ruSeJK

Another couple of losses for the Moncton Wildcats on the weekend…including a 3-2 overtime shootout heartbreaker against Acadie-Bathurst on Saturday night. The Cats only have one win in their last 13 games…it’s not stopping the crowds though…more than 6,000 in attendance for that game Saturday. Moncton has a bit of a Christmas break now…their next home game is a New Year’s Eve matinee against Saint John at the Coliseum.
